UPMC Pinnacle Foundation unveils new Planned Giving toolkit and website
The UPMC Pinnacle Foundation is here to help you create the world as you wish to see it. Planned gifts allow you to harness the power of your assets, achieve your philanthropic goals, and help your values live on.
Ernie McDowell joined UPMC Harrisburg’s public relations staff in 1971 and was a devoted member of the Pinnacle Health Auxiliary. In 1994, the Pinnacle Health Auxiliary voted to name a scholarship in honor of Ernie for all his support, care, and friendship, and the Ernest R. McDowell Health Career Scholarship Fund was born. Supported by planned gifts from both Ernie and his wife, the scholarship can be awarded to any individual pursuing a career in health care and living in the Greater Harrisburg area.
“My father was very well known in the community because of everything he was involved in... He was just really engaged in the community, and my mom followed in his footsteps...” said Ernie's daughter Mary Beth Sembort. “The two of them together just believed strongly in giving back to their community and volunteering. Relative to planning for their death, they gave to organizations that they believed would be able to use what they gave for the betterment of the community.”
